Baler Operator [United Kingdom]


 

Bolton Brothers Ltd, a leading family-owned Waste & Recycling business based in Gt Blakenham, Ipswich are seeking an experienced Baler Operator to join their Materials Recycling Facility baler operation team.

Job Profile

Responsible for monitoring material levels going into the baler and activating the conveyors and controls to bale sorted recyclable material.

Tasks & Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential of the following duties satisfactorily:

  • Performs daily inspection of equipment, record checks & immediately report all maintenance issues to the MRF Manager
  • Monitors levels of material going into the baler
  • Change baler settings for each commodity to be baled.
  • Operate conveyors to bring materials from loading areas to baler.
  • Perform Quality Control on each grade of material as it is conveyed to the baler.
  • Places materials in compression chamber of baling machine.
  • Activate the controls of baler to compress and wire tie bales.
  • Keep accurate production records on bales produced.
  • To fulfil duties of a Banksman which involves controlling the movement and direction of LGV vehicles whilst unloading or loading in the MRF area (full training will be given).
  • To feed the baler conveyor using a 360 machine and loading shovel.
  • To maintain and control stockpiling of grades of material with use of a 360 machine and loading shovel.

Certificates & Licences Required

· Required to undergo Baler & Banksman induction and initial training with annual refresher training thereafter.

· Required to read and review Baler operators manual prior to operation of equipment.

Skills Required

  • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc).
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling heavy objects.
  • Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, etc)
  • Required to be exposed to a heavily physical environment which involves dirt, dust, noise, weather extremes or similar elements.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of all Health & Safety and Quality procedures to fully support and adhere to Company processes.

Alternate weekly shift patterns: 0700 - 1700 / 0600 - 1700 or 0700 - 1800 Monday - Friday

Compulsory overtime on rotational Saturday mornings.

All overtime over and above 40 hours per work is payable at £19.13 per hour.
